PhD Student, Increasing the efficiency of minimally invasive surgery training: A cognitive approach
PhD Student, Increasing the efficiency of minimally invasive surgery training: A cognitive approach
PhD Student (38 hours per week)
Vacancy number: 12-004
The project will be carried out in Leiden, The Netherlands.
Description of the project:
Safe execution of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) requires intensive training, partially due to the specific cognitive demands of operating laparoscopic tools and working with indirect displays. The candidate will chart the main cognitive challenges of MIS and relate them to the procedures of a non-patient simulated training environment, making use of current views on optimal procedural training. This will form the basis for developing individualized training methods for MIS, aimed at efficient acquisition and strong consolidation of safe procedural skills. Candidates are expected to disseminate the results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences and European project meetings. The candidate receives relevant PhD training. We expect the PhD-candidate to finish a PhD thesis within the three year project period.
